Welcome Maydm’s New Executive Director Dr. Christina Outlay!

“We have a wealth of local, untapped talent, particularly among our girls and youth of color, that aren’t are of or equipped for technology careers.” – Dr. Christina Outlay, Executive Director

Earlier this year, we announced the search for our next Executive Director, with the hope of having the new leader start in early 2022. The Board of Directors and staff of Maydm are honored to announce the selection of our new Executive Director, Dr. Christina Outlay, who will be joining our team in January 2022.

Dr. Outlay is currently an Associate Professor of Information Technology at UW-Whitewater and is also the Founder and Director of colorcoded, an organization whose mission to fill the Information Technology (IT) career pipeline with more women and people of color lines up very well with Maydm’s mission and vision. She brings a background in corporate IT, nonprofit leadership, program development and project management, and higher education to her new role at Maydm.

Maydm’s Board Chairman, Jeff Mack, Park Bank First Vice President – Business and Development had this to say about Christina, “We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Outlay as Maydm’s next Executive Director. As we began the search for our next leader, we talked extensively about what qualities the ideal candidate would have and it quickly became clear that Christina would be a perfect fit. We were looking for a strong leader with a STEM background, and experience leading in a nonprofit or education setting – and we were fortunate to find a leader who has all of that.

As we look at the future of Maydm and the plans we have to continue our mission of equipping girls and students of color in grades 6 – 12, with the skills they need for the STEM sector, we are confident in the experience and knowledge Christina brings to the table. We have big plans for 2022 and beyond, and we couldn’t be more excited to have Christina join our team now.

“I am excited and honored to join Maydm and serve as the Executive Director. As a Black woman with an IT background in corporate and higher ed, I am well aware of the challenges and opportunities that exist for women and people of color in our industry.”

Additionally, the tech sector right here in Madison is booming and many companies work hard to recruit workers from outside Wisconsin. Yet, we have a wealth of local untapped talent, particularly among our girls and youth of color that aren’t aware of or equipped for technology careers. Maydm has been actively working to address this gap since 2015, and we are poised to make an even more significant impact moving forward. We will show our youth that a future in STEM is possible for them and provide them with the STEM knowledge, training, and opportunities with local employers to be successful,” Dr. Christina Outlay said about becoming the Executive Director of Maydm.

In 2022, Maydm will host five immersive STEM summer programs for middle and high school students with a goal of serving 100 students in those programs. We will also be hosting our 2nd cohort of high school interns with local companies Exact Sciences, CUNA Mutual Group, First Business Bank, and others. We are excited to welcome Dr. Outlay to the team to lead these incredible initiatives as well as the strategic growth for our future.

We are almost 50% of the way to our Year End Campaign goal! We would like to invite you to consider making a gift in honor of our new Executive Director! Your donation will support our organization in this next chapter as we provide our students the opportunity to grow their confidence and skills in STEM.
